If the disposal is on and making a humming sound, it is likely the disposal is jammed. Turn off the disposal, then locate an Allen screw on the bottom of the disposal. Use an Allen key to move the screw in either direction to dislodge the jam. Once the disposal is moving freely, use a flashlight to look into the sink drain to locate an foreign objects.
